Station Ave, Brunswick
Water Main Repair

There are multiple steps to flushing and disinfecting new mains and services. Services will be turned on as the differing stages are completed successfully. Tentatively, fire services are scheduled on Monday and domestic services Tuesday and Wednesday. Tenants will hear directly from the building owner regarding the actual schedule.
Site cleanup will be on going and there will need to be traffic alterations for paving and sidewalk restoration. These activities will be the last week of September and into October depending on when the services can be turned on and subcontractor availability.
Again, BTWD apologizes for the inconvenience and appreciate how patient the public and our customers have been. We will continue to work quickly and safely to clean up and restore Station Ave.
We appreciate everyone’s patience during this unplanned, complex replacement. Wednesday’s work encountered a setback when the pulling head separated from the pipe.
Today, Thursday, the contractor installed the remaining 250 ft of pipe. We also began installing new services to serve the affected buildings. Friday’s work will be continuing the install of new services.
Due to the delay, we are not in a position to estimate when the new services will be connected. It will not be before Monday as we are unlikely to have the required water quality results before then, due to the setback. We anticipate having an initial plan by the end of Friday once more of the service work is complete. The temporary services will remain in place until the new services are connected.
Again, BTWD apologizes for this additional layer of inconvenience we were trying to avoid and appreciate how patient the public and our customers have been.

Wednesday’s work encountered a setback when the pulling head separated from the pipe. This meant the contractor was only able to install 600 ft of water main. Today, Thursday, the contractor will install the remaining 250 ft of pipe, which unfortunately will occur right in front of the station, due to yesterday’s setback. All access to the train station and busses will be at the designated area to the Union St side of the station. We will move the bus stop and drop off closer to the station, as soon as it is safe to. Additional crews will begin the process of making connections on the 600 ft that were installed yesterday. BTWD apologizes for this additional layer of inconvenience we were trying to avoid and appreciate how patient the public and our customers have been.

Tuesday’s work of digging access pits for the pipe replacement equipment to be placed is nearly complete. Wednesday will involve pulling a new 850ft piece of HDPE (High Density Polyethylene) pipe from Union St towards Maine St. BTWD uses HDPE pipe in complex areas where we have to directionally drill to install or replace pipe.
This will temporarily close Union St between the long-term parking lot and Station Ave as the single piece of 850 ft of pipe is pulled across the road and installed in place. One way traffic on Station Ave will be maintained, but it will need to turn left onto Union St. This will occur between late morning and early afternoon and will last for 3 to 6 hours depending on the ease of the setup and install. This is a unique and intricate process and we plan to share photos of the install on the website and Facebook for those who are interested.
We will provide afternoon updates throughout the rest of the week and the beginning of next week to keep our customers and the public advised of the progress and planned activities. BTWD will communicate at the end of this week when planned interruptions will be made to switch customers off temporary service. Again, we apologize for the inconvenience and appreciate how patient the public and our customers have been.
