Water Main Flushing
The flushing program at the District is a routine maintenance program designed to maintain the quality of water. Each year the District flushes the water mains by using a high velocity of water from fire hydrants. Flowing in the opposite direction of the water's natural flow, the high pace of water allows deposits that have settled in the network of pipes to be flushed out. If the District has been flushing in your area and your water is discolored, start by opening an outside faucet or fixture closest to your meter to clear the line.
The flushing program usually begins in April and generally lasts 4-6 weeks. Our crews work from Monday through Thursday between 7:30 am and 4:00 pm. We update our website and Facebook page daily with a detailed schedule of where our crews will be for the day. If you ever have any questions or concerns, please do not hesitate to call our office at 207-729-9956. Our office hours are Monday through Thursday 7:00 am to 5:00 pm.
